About the Opportunity

HopeWell has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Youth Program Tutor Supervisor, based out of our headquarters in Roxbury, Massachusetts, however, travel throughout the area is expected based on caseload requirements.

As the Youth Program Tutor Supervisor, you will report to and collaborate with the Program Director and other team members, leading and supporting a small team of tutors, and simultaneously fulfilling the role of a tutor with your own caseload. In both roles, you will actively participate in internal and external meetings and maintain accurate documentation.

Your supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the Literacy Program Manager and Education Director to train, coach, and support tutors
  • Ensuring the fidelity of the RISE tutoring model through observations, data analysis, and adaptation
  • Interviewing, hiring, and supervising a team of tutors while promoting their professional development
  • Offering ongoing coaching, recognition, and support for tutors
  • Aligning academic support areas in collaboration with Education Support Manager, Literacy Program Manager, and Education Director
  • Assessing and developing personalized support plans for youth's social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Providing direct tutoring services and educational advice
  • Maintaining open communication and reporting family-related concerns to the program director

As a tutor, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting in-person tutoring sessions for K-3 youth and caregivers, using assessment tools to evaluate literacy and social-emotional skills and identify learning gaps
  • Assessing home environments for enhanced learning 
  • Collaborating with RISE Education Support staff to address additional support needs
  • Customizing the curriculum based on data and feedback
  • Providing one-on-one tutoring with a trauma-informed approach 
  • Partnering with RISE Education Support staff to communicate with caregivers
  • Collaborating with community providers

About You

To qualify, you will need at least 3 years of supervisory/management experience in the industry and a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Work (BSW or MSW), or an equivalent degree in Human Services.

Candidates with a minimum of 3 years of experience in serving youth who have experienced trauma and implementing student-centered/trauma-informed support strategies are highly valued.

  • Proven experience in both an educational setting and a social service setting (asset)
  • Established track record with child welfare-involved youth (asset)
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts public education system (asset)
  • Comfort working in community settings
  • Possess strong reading and writing skills
  • High degree of effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, and prioritize tasks
  • Exhibit an understanding of and competence in serving BIPOC youth
  • Possess computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions
  • Eligible for a background check
